Super Mom DIY costume guide

     Hello again!
    My name is Stephanie.
This blog is a branch out from my previous blog, easy DIY Wonder women bachelorette costume party. This blog told the adventure of my own super hero costume bachelorette party.
If you want to learn more about my DIY wonder women costume or get party ideas, you can find it here:

Just briefly I would like to introduce my mom, and then I will explain how to create her costume! Words to describe my mom : caring, patient, happy, beautiful inside and out, young at heart, fun, supportive, imaginative, kind,  intelligent, passionate...... She truly is an amazing super mom!

(Photos of my mom putting her necklace on me to borrow at my wedding) photos by Candy's photography.

As stated above, my bachelorette party was a super hero costume theme. All  the special ladies in my life came dressed as super Heros and it was a blast!

It was important to me to make my mom an awesome super hero outfit for the night, and it didn't take long to decide, she would be SUPER MOM.

(Super mom and super house wife)

Mother of the bride aka SUPER MOM. . She saves the day complimenting and boosting confidence of anyone she sees.

Cape- find some razzle dazzle fabric and purchase enough for the length of caper you need. ( above is probably 1 yard). Once I had the fabric, I simply found some ribbon with hearts on it( because moms are lovable) and I sewed it all the way around the edge of the cape. I folded it over the edge to be visible on inside and outside and so I didn't need a hem.
To make a closure to the cape, I glued a heart button onto a blank brooch pin.
I also spray painted the back using painter tape to mark of blank areas. ( use a well ventilated area or go outside!) and puff paint for the lettering.

Heart emblem- I used sparkle foam paper to cut a large heart. I used puff paint to write mom inside the heart. I used another brooch pin to make it easy to pin to her shirt.
Utility belt-she wears a belt of weapons including mini lunch boxes of snacks, antibacterial soap, Kleenex , energy drink, and Chapstick. (Mini lunch boxes are sometimes in the $1 spot at target) I made a sequin belt using the sequin ribbon/roll you can find at Joann's by the yard. It's stretchy so just sew it together in a loop and step into it. (You can do a buckle if you want)
She wore a normal belt for support to stick her "mom weapons" into.
Leg warmers- I also sewed a simple leg warmer. They are easy to do, but I think I will do a tutorial in the future explaining better. Basically it's a rectangle of fabric sewed together with hem on bottom and hem on top ( with casing and opening for ribbon!) and I super glued foam hearts down the middle.
Accessorize- my mom found glasses she wanted to wear, but the possibilities are endless ! Have fun with it!

BONUS DETAILS!

SUPER HOUSE WIFE. details, she carries around an oven mitt to keep her belongings in, she also carries a mini broom and dust pan and rubber cleaning gloves(for emergencies) and she saves the world one cupcake at a time.
-dustpan tied around waste, $1spot at target.
-rubber gloves tucked in to waste, I hot glued lace around the top to fancy them up
-face mask fom party store with cupcake button hot glued to corner
- cape, scrap fabric. I had a half circle of scrap fabric and simply sewed rectangle fabric scraps to the bottom. It simply draped on her shoulders and stayed put.
-oven Mit as a purse, $1spot at target. She kept everything she needed for the night in the mit (and we went out) and she held onto the loop as a handle.

Thank you so much for reading my blog! I hope you can have as much fun with this inspiration as we did!!

Easy DIY wonder women bachelorette costume party.

My name is Stephanie

I am writing to you with great $#?! excitement! I am a bride to be and recently had my bachelorette party.  The reason this is so exciting is because I asked all my girlfriends to dress as super heroes BAM! it made my day when they all joined in and got creative! First, super heroes united for drinks, foods, and gifts. Then, we hailed some cabs and went out on the town of northeast Minneapolis. Dressed up to save the night, we had a scavenger hunt that had us interact with many people through out the city.  It was the most fun I have ever had!

I would like to share a DIY breakdown of my WONDERWOMEN costume.

-cape. Get as much fabric you need for the size cape you want. Fourth of July is good timing for wonder women. Fold over one end of the fabric about an inch and sew a straight line. ( when you sew you leave room for a ribbon to fit through.) get ribbon and feed through the casing with safety pin. = easy cape

-shorts. I found short metallic  blue  spandex shorts at ragstock. (You could sew your own etc). The shorts were too short and too plain. I bought some stretch sequin about three inches wide at Joann etc ( near the ribbon you buy by the yard)  I sewed this to the bottom of the shorts. ( you could hot glue gun it also) I found a Fourth of July undies at Victoria's Secret and wore them over the shorts. ( you could also cut out stars from felt and hot glue them onto the shorts)

-shirt. I bought a red tank top and gold glitter puff paint. to make things easier, I  put my tank top on my mannequin (put tank top on a cardboard box etc. if you dont have a manequin)and drew on the WONDERWOMEN emblem with the gold puff paint. ( google if you need reference. ) dry with hair dryer if in a hurry (I was!)

-accesories- find gold and red jewelry you like. I made a headband using gold spandex fabric from Joann's (half a yard is plenty) and felt. Cut the shape out of felt And then hot glue/cover with fabric. ( you can sew instead of hot glue) cut felt star or use red puff paint for the star. Attach elastic band.

-boot covers. My boot covers were the hardest part of the costume.  i hand drafted a pattern and then sewed and added eyelets for lace up. I looked at many tutorials to figure this out but it's easy once you do the research. And adds a lot to the costume ! ( an easier version would be less shapely leg warmers. )

-SHOES!!!- I found these awesome platform boots at goodwill. I wore them for a hippy go go girl costume, but now they were needed again. I cut out comics of wonder women and others and mod podged them onto the boots.  (lots of top coat layers needed!! The paper comics will crack if there isn't enough!)

-Hair!! big rollers and lots of back combing and then smoothing.

Makeup red lipstick winged eye and your imagination ! I did some blue eyeliner and gold. But red glitter coulda shoulda woulda been awesome.

SHAZAM! Hope you like it !

BONUS DIY IDEA:
My friends also decorated the house up, made treats, and a backdrop for photos WITH props :)
